This statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at the school for the purposes of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
STUDENTS IN YEARS 7-13 ARE ENTITLED:
- To find out about apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each key stage transition point
- To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options evenings, assemblies and general careers events
- To learn about local and national Labour Market Intelligence, which will inform their career choices
- To evaluate and reflect on their careers provision at each key stage

KEY STAGE 3:
- To help explore The World of Work
- To help students develop information finding skills
- To identify skills and qualities and foster a sense of self-awareness
- To help students make considered decisions regarding the transition to key stage 4
- Use goal setting, review, reflection and action planning to support progress and achievement
- Recognise stereotyped and misrepresented images of people, careers and work and how their own views of these issues affect their decision making

How we monitor and evaluate
Please note that these schemes of learning are reviewed on an annual basis in line with the student/teacher voice which take place at a year group level. Heads of year, along with the designated lead, review the student reflection logs(which everyone must complete) and make changes accordingly.
Sixth Form: Students are given information about the framework of higher education and the methods by which they may apply. Help is also given with the mechanics of applications such as letters of application, curriculum vitae and interview skills. Computer programmes can suggest possible choices of career and/or degree courses. Careers South West is available to give students individual interviews.
In addition to the work carried out by school staff, Careers South West provides a careers adviser to assist the school. The adviser is in attendance at each of our Year 9 to 13 consultation meetings with parents. S/he also talks to Year 9 and 10 students and conducts individual and group interviews with Year 11 students.
