Coping With a Drink Problem

  • Set yourself a limit and stick to it!
  • Don't let others put pressure on you
  • Pace your drinking
  • Think about why you drink and how it makes you feel afterwards
  • Think about when you drink. How could you avoid this?
  • Find alternatives to drinking

  • Do you wake up feeling embarrassed or ashamed?
  • Do you feel you drink too much?
  • Can you always remember what you have done?
  • Keep a drinks diary
  • Do you make excuses for yourself?

Helping Someone With a Drink Problem

  • Avoid arguments!
  • Talk to the person when they are sober and stay calm
  • Explain how you feel
  • Don't try to hide the drinking from others and don't make excuses
  • Encourage the persom to seek help. Be supportive but don't be pushy
  • Listen to them. Find out how they feel and why they drink
