Tolcarne House

TOLCARNE HOUSE has supported the Air Ambulance Charity from the outset. The students believe the support of this charity to be extremely worthwhile. The Air Ambulance needs £1.6 million to keep it flying a year and has visited to the college during the Tolcarne Charity days to help support and raise the profile of this essential local asset.
Last year we were privileged to have another visit by the helicopter and crew. All students and staff had the opportunity to look around the helicopter, speak to the pilots and medics. We have raised £1126.76 over the past two years. Students raised money in many various ways from wearing fancy dress costumes, come as you like days, activities and stalls.
With the house colour as blue, the Tolcarne students stand out with their distinctive blue and black ties. As head of house, students feel they are able to approach me for advice, help and support, they also know that I will follow up what I say with actions and seek to resolve issues quickly without fuss.
Thanks to the highly successful and supportive mentoring scheme adopted at Treviglas, the Tolcarne Y11 students achieved fantastic results last year (08-09). 98% of students achieved 5 GCSE’s between A* - C and over 68% of students obtained 5 GCSE’s between A* - C including English and Maths. Mentoring, this year, in Y11 is timetabled into the curriculum, so the successful Tolcarne tutors will focus their efforts on the Y10 students. With more students taking exams in Y10 it hoped that these students will be just as successful.
