SOS Charity Day

Charitable students and staff at Treviglas Community College took part in RNLI SOS Day by helping to raise funds for the local chapter of lifeguards and volunteer lifeboat crews.

Organised by Treviglas’ Towan House, the day saw the college’s main hall transformed into a virtual fair ground where a flurry of games and tasty treats were available for purchase in order to raise charitable funds.

Students and staff left their uniforms and work clothes at home and instead adorned clothing with spots and stripes to show their support for the cause. Some staff members even took it a step further with nautical-themed costumes such as sailor uniforms and pirate outfits.

In between sampling delicious home-baked cakes and cookies, students and staff tried their luck at several fun challenges. One such game was “Ping Pong Bounce”, a game where contestants try to bounce a table tennis ball into prize filled cups. Another was “Match ‘Em Up”, where participants tested their memory skills in an attempt to win chocolate goodies.

By the end of the day, Treviglas managed to raise nearly £1,000 for the RNLI, bringing the grand total up to more than £8,000 so far when combined with money raised from previous charity days. Towan's head of house Matt Cherry said: "It is fantastic to see the whole college coming together to support this national event. It's thrilling to not only see the students and staff in such great spirits, but also to support such a deserving cause."

Treviglas holds several house charity days throughout the year to support the RNLI as well as Shelterbox, Aid for Orphans and Air Ambulance.
