A Very Treviglas Christmas

It was certainly beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Treviglas Community College last week as students and staff took the stage for an evening of singing, dancing and Yule tide fun.

The college presented its annual Christmas concert on December 11 to a packed house of parents, students and local residents. The festive event showcased a wide array of entertainment performed by both students and staff – serving up a rockin’ kick-start to the Christmas season.

Featured acts ranged from choir and orchestral performances to steel drumming and rock music. Numbers included old favourites like “Silent Night” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” to chart tunes such as Cold Play’s “Viva la Vida” and Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars”. At one point, an orchestra of ukuleles filled the stage to perform an eclectic melody featuring Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and “Teardrop” by Massive Attack.

The concert also included speeches from Treviglas head teacher Karen Ross and Cornwall County council member Pat Harvey, who both touched on highlights from the past year as well as enthusiastic hopes for 2012.

Treviglas head of music, Steve Mildenhall, helped to organise the event and said that the annual concert is always one of the college’s favourite times of year.

“It’s such an enjoyable time and a great chance for the college to show off all the talent of the students,” Mildenhall said. “It’s also a great opportunity for students and staff to come together and celebrate with parents and members of the local community.”

The evening was capped off with a preview of the college’s forthcoming Spring term production “Seussical “, a musical based on the works of children’s author Dr. Seuss. Cast members performed a three-song taster, which included a number about green eggs and ham.

In the end, the concert was big hit for all – students, teachers and parents alike.

“All of the performers just looked like they were having so much fun up there,” said parent Judith Veale shortly after the show. “I was quite impressed by the level of talent seen here tonight. No doubt everyone enjoyed it. Very fun.”

The Treviglas Christmas Concert was organised by music teachers Steve Mildenhall, Glen Graham and Rhian Knight, who were assisted by several other members of Treviglas staff and students.
