Students Get Real Deal About Today's Army

Year 10 students at Treviglas Community College got the chance to get the real scoop about today’s British Army last week (November 29) during an informative and candid presentation given by a group of enlisted soldiers.

Avoiding the usual recruitment path, the 60-minute multimedia presentation instead focused on providing students with an accurate view of the modern British Army and the actual role it plays in today’s society.

During the talk, soldiers set straight many common misconceptions about the army such as whether women are in fact allowed to serve on the front lines. Other issues addressed were whether or not the Army is depicted fairly in the media as well as what are, in fact, the most dangerous global threats we face today.

In turn, students were asked to give their opinions about current issues such as the war in Afghanistan and what they really think the roles of the army are locally, nationally and internationally.

“It’s a fantastic way for our students to gain insight into today’s armed forces and clear up many misconceptions they might have,” said Senior Head of House Dawn Henshall, who co-ordinated the presentation. “The students seemed to get a lot out of the day and we look forward to having more learning days such as this in the future.”
