Primary Girls Football Festival

Treviglas College ran the forth Newquay Primary schools girl’s football festival.

Our local Partners in developing girl’s football, Newquay Ladies have been running coaching sessions at Treviglas for Girls ages 4 to 19 over the past year. Cornwall FA and Newquay Ladies have been working together in local primary schools offering after school clubs.

This initiative is to get more girls interested in having a go at football in girls only environment in their school. The festival was split into two age groups years 3 & 4 and years 5 & 6.

Sean Wells School Sports Coordinator for Treviglas Said ‘This year we had the biggest number of teams with 7 in the year 3 & 4s’ and 11 in the year 5 & 6. With over 180 children and 120 games taking place young leaders from Treviglas worked hard to keep tally of the scores. The year 3 & 4 festival was Run by Matt Brewer a year 13 and Treviglas Elite leader. The Referees were coaches and players from Newquay Ladies, and some of Treviglas elite football leaders. These were helped by other Young leaders as linespersons’.

The afternoon was a great success helped by the glorious sun shine, with many of the girls never playing in a football match before, it game them a new opportunity to compete at this level.

Cornwall FA's Warren Parker, Women and Girls Football Development Officer, attended the festival as it is the biggest of its type in Cornwall and was amazed by the level of play and the commitment showed by the girls. The Cornwall FA gave us some medals and certificates to give out as part of the ‘Fair Play’ initiative.
