Governors’ Committee & Meeting Structure


All committees meet once per term and/or as necessary and, in order to be quorate, a minimum of three designated governors should be present.

The Chairs Committee formed June 2007
The chairs of all committees plus the designated governor for data meet with the Chair of Governors at least 3 times per year to consider the strategic direction of the college and to discuss issues which are arising as well as to debate the progress and development of the college. The committee may be called to meet at any time by the Chair as s/he feels necessary.

The committee discusses, considers and makes recommendations about those issues linked to the successful management of the college and its site, including Health, Safety & security issues.
The committee is chaired by the annually-elected Chairman who formally reports to the Governors each term. Formal minutes are published in addition to the copy held centrally by the Clerk to the Governors.
Some staff may be invited to attend for a particular agenda item.


Curriculum Committee

The committee discusses, considers and makes recommendations about all issues associated with the successful organisation of the curriculum, including teaching and learning, monitoring and assessing pupil progress, reporting to parents and examination results.
The committee is chaired by the annually-elected Committee Chairman who formally reports to the Governors each term. Formal minutes are published in addition to the copy held centrally by the Clerk to the Governors.
Some staff may be invited to attend for a particular agenda item or to make presentations to the governors regarding good practice, research projects or in association to bursaries/fellowships awarded. At the end of 2005, a sub-committee was formed, the Curriculum Review Committee, to be involved in the curriculum review process.

The committee meets to consider the process of Curriculum Review and also to receive the report of the Curriculum Review team when the Curriculum Leader is present. The committee debates the outcomes of the Curriculum Review with the Curriculum Leader and the SLT; the outcome of the debate is a set of agreed recommendations to the main Curriculum committee and, in turn, to the full governing body. The Curriculum Review committee is also involved in the follow-up work that is done within the faculty and across the curriculum.

The committee discusses, considers and makes recommendations about all those issues and policies associated with the welfare and support of students, including rewards & sanctions, pastoral organisation, behaviour and college policies, the Citizenship programme and staff/student relationships.
The committee is chaired by the annually-elected Committee Chairman who formally reports each term to the Governors. Formal minutes are published in addition to the copy held centrally by the Clerk to the Governors. Some staff may be invited to attend for a particular agenda item, to make presentations or to share good practice.

The committee discusses, considers and makes recommendations about all budgetary issues including setting & monitoring the budget, considering requests from other committees and “viring” sums of money between budget headings. The Head Students
This committee was formed in 2005-2006 in the response to the increased numbers at post 16 and the changing nature of education offered at Treviglas for post 16 learners, in order to consider the needs of this significant group within the college population and to represent and advise the full governing body in the management of all aspects of post 16 education at Treviglas. It was decided that the Head Students would be full members of this committee.

This committee meets as necessary.

Business & Enterprise Steering Committee
The formation and membership of this committee are laid down by the Specialist Trust as a requirement of specialist status. The committee meets at least annually.

Data
A designated governor meets with the Assistant Headteacher (data) at least three times per year and specifically following national examinations and tests to examine the college data and to interrogate the college response. The designated governor reports to the Curriculum Committee and to the full governing body and has a specific role to play in the Curriculum Review process.


Full Governors’ Meeting
Meets formally each term with extraordinary meetings as necessary.
Comprises all elected, nominated and co-opted Governors including the Headteacher; the Deputy Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers attend in the capacity of advisers & observers.
Clerk to the Governing Body
The Full Governing Body discusses, considers and decides upon all those issues associated with the successful running of the college and, in particular, receiving reports and advice from the finance, curriculum, building & sites, pupil welfare and personnel committees; from Governor representatives on standing committees; and from the Headteacher in her termly report. The committee is chaired by the Chairman of Governors. Formal minutes are published in addition to the copy held centrally by the Clerk to the Governors. Some staff may be invited to attend for a particular agenda item or to make presentations to the full governing body.

First Personnel (Pay & Conditions) Committee

The committee considers annual review of pay policy and spinal point structure, together with staff requests for salary review & other personnel issues and makes decisions and/or representations to the full governing body. The committee is chaired by the Chairman of Governors. Formal (confidential) minutes are produced and held centrally by the Clerk to the Governors.


Second Personnel (Appeals) Committee
No less than 3 Governors, including the Vice Chairman of governors, not involved in first committee

This committee considers appeals against the decision(s) of the First committee. The committee is chaired by the Vice-Chair of Governors. Formal (confidential) minutes are produced and held centrally by the Clerk to the Governors


Headteacher’s Performance Management
The committee comprises at least three governors including the Chair and/or the Vice Chair, Chair of Finance plus one or two others as stipulated annually. The committee meets with the School Improvement Partner by request and also to consider the annual, formal report given by the School Improvement Partner in person. This committee reports directly to the full governing body.


Governors’ Disciplinary Committee
At least 3 governors - usually not those on first personnel committee.
