Prospectus: Centre of Learning

Our top priority at Treviglas is to provide a structured, supported learning environment. This structure is put in place to maximise each student's individual strengths and is supported by excellent staff, high quality facilities and strong bonds with the local community, industry and commerce.

Faculties and Facilities

Our nine faculties at the college cover the key subject areas.....

Our aim is to provide effective learning opportunities appropriate to each student's
capabilities. Students' needs are evaluated and additional support, through our Effective Learning Unit, is offered where appropriate. At the heart of our learning environment are literacy and numeracy skills plus personal and social education as well as careers planning, accelerated learning and citizenship.

Teaching Structure

Treviglas covers key stages 3 and 4 of the National Curriculum as well as Post 16 further education. In Key Stage 3, a broad and balanced curriculum which includes the core subjects and a range of foundation subjects, is undertaken. At the end of the first three years, with the support of teachers, the Year Tutor and parents, subjects for GCSE/GNVQ in Key Stage 4 are determined. During Years 10 and 11, learning is more subject specific and is able to maximise every student's potential. Those who stay with us into the sixth form, study for AS, A2 and /or vocational qualifications in increasingly refined groups to give the students an optimum learning environment.

Sixth Form

You may, if you wish, complete your secondary education at Treviglas where we have a thriving and well equipped sixth form. Although not all students will opt for this, for those who do, the continuity of continuing studies in the same place will remove one adjustment from the step into A level and associated levels of learning.

Our Place in the Community

We appreciate that students' development takes place in a number of contexts: the subjects they study, their career plans and their progress within the college community. It is also important for students to view their development in terms of the wider community. Treviglas encourages families to share in students' progress and encourages students to be active contributors to their local community.

Links with Local Industry

Learning is not only about theories but these also have to be applied in the world of work. The links that Treviglas has with local industry ensure our students don't just learn their subjects, but that they also begin to understand how to use their knowledge in a successful work environment.

Careers Guidance

The objective of the college is to equip every student to successfully make his or her way in the world and in order for this objective to be met, a key part of the work of the college is to help in the selection of an appropriate career area. This will not only assist in job seeking but also help in the selection of final study courses appropriate to career preferences.
