Music
Music is a skill and ability that we nourish and cultivate in our students, especially now as scientific evidence proves that an education in the arts makes better maths and science students. Musical activity has also been shown to enhance spatial intelligence and promote better concentration levels for all, using many parts of the brain simultaneously.
As a music department we seek to make music accessible, enjoyable and inclusive for all students. Our team of experienced and highly qualified staff provide a host of engaging musical activities across the curriculum and in extra curricular activities.
We provide a wide variety of clubs and activities outside of lesson time and aim to help all students share their musical experiences with each other, in the college and in the community around us. We currently offer a steel band, samba drumming, ukulele orchestra and a mixed community choir. The department also has strong rock/pop traditions. We are pleased to provide practise spaces for our ‘bands’ and the college annually puts on a number of concerts including the world famous ‘Rock Mime’, a charity concert, showcasing our emerging talent. Treviglas also regularly put on full scale musicals, recently we sold out 5 performances of Grease, and currently we are looking at selling out 6 performances of Seussical.
Come and see the department for yourself, or listen to some of the students work through the sound clips on these pages.
