Expressive & Performing Arts

Jade Hayward (GCSE Student) in 'The Laundry Girls'

"Imagining what it is like to be someone other than yourself is at the core of our humanity.  It is the essence of compassion, and it is the beginning of morality," Ian McEwan.

Welcome to the Expressive & Performing Arts section of the site.  This is an exhilarating time to be teaching the arts in college, Government understands the importance of creativity in education and this is demonstrated in a range of recent policies and initiatives.

Rebecca Shipway - Currently attending the Royal Academy of Dance

"The most valuable asset a nation has is the creativity of its children," Alan Plater.

Art, Drama, Music and Photography represent practical activity and intellectual discipline.  We are involved in imagination and feelings and how these emotions help us to make sense of the world.  Through engagement in the arts, students apply their imaginations and draw upon personal experiences, leading to their increasing knowledge and understanding of how their work within the arts enables them to effectively shape, express and share their ideas, feelings and responses in a meaningful way.

Sam Skinner (A Level Student) in 'An Inspector Calls'

" The arts make us feel connected to one another and less isolated.  Through the arts we share an emotion and that sharing connects us with each other and we realise we all feel the same emotions.  The arts are our last hope, we find our identity and make it easier and more pleasurable to live and they also give us wisdom.  We see our problems acted out and it's an important socialising force," Arthur Miller.
