Sports Hub

A 3D model of the Sports Hub

What is it?

The SportsHub at Treviglas is an exciting £2 million project aimed at developing sport participation in our community. Funded by Sport England, the Hub will provide a wide range of sporting facilities which can be used and enjoyed by the college and the whole community. The hub will impact positively on the health and lives of every student at Treviglas and is a very special development in this all important sporting year. Treviglas has appointed a Community Development Coordinator who will be in post when the Hub opens to the community and college. The role of the coordinator will be to reach out and engage the community with sport and healthy lifestyles in an innovative and inclusive manner.

What facilities will it include?

The Hub will have a separate community and college entrance on its west and east elevations. This will allow for multi-use of the facilities without interference. The community and college areas will have their own separate changing and toilet facilities. The Hub will feature a ‘state of the Art’ sports hall which will be able to accommodate the following sports:

  • Indoor Football
  • Indoor Cricket
  • Basketball (match play and practice courts)
  • Volleyball
  • Badminton (4 courts)

In addition to this, the Hub will also feature a top of the range fitness suite equipped exclusively with ‘Technogym’ products. The fitness suite will comprise of cardio and resistance machines as well as a free weights area. This new fitness suite will be IFI accredited which means it will have multi-functional equipment that disabled and able bodied people can both use. ‘Technogym’ is one of the market leaders in gym equipment and are the sole sponsors of the 2012 Olympics in this area. The college is also trying to raise funds to include an external climbing wall on the east elevation. This would be an excellent addition to the hub and any community support in this area would be gratefully received. For information on fundraising opportunities please contact the student council.

When will it be open for use?

The hub will be open to the public in early March. However, the formal opening ceremony will be on 30th May which will also mark the beginning of our Primary Olympic Festival where all partner primaries will be taking part in an Olympic competition which will feed into the Cornwall School Games in June (held in Newquay). Ed Coode (Olympic rowing champion) and Steven Gilbert (local MP) will be formally opening the facility on that day.

How do I find out more?

There will be a Sportshub information evening scheduled for Thursday 1st March from 5.30pm -7.00pm at the college. There will be lots of information and activities scheduled for the evening and if you would like to come please could you let reception know at the college and say how many people will be attending on the evening. We welcome as much support and interest as possible.
