Skatepark Academy

The Skatepark Academy is part of the college’s eXtra@ programme, and currently runs after college for two hours on a Tuesday. Groups of students from all age groups come together every week and are taken to Mount Hawke Skatepark just outside of Porthtowan. Mount Hawke is one of Europe’s premier indoor skateparks and we are very fortunate to have such an outstanding facility on our doorstep, especially as the cold nights start to draw in as we approach winter. Regardless of what kind of skating or riding that the students are into, there is something for everyone down at Mount Hawke.

Details

All skatepark users are encouraged to come along and we have a mixed crew of Skateboarders, BMXers, Bladers and Scooters that come along every week.

The college minibus leaves Treviglas at 3 o’clock after college on Tuesdays during term time. For £3.50 per session, the students get a full two hours skating or biking and we return to college for 6 o’clock. Students are required to bring a helmet with them, along with a change of clothes and their entrance fee of £3.50 which they pay on arrival.

Important

Due to the popularity of the club and the fact that we are only able to offer a limited number of places, students are required to sign up each week on the sign up sheet which is placed on the notice board outside the staff room every Monday morning. If their names are not on the sheet they will not be able to come, as we can only take a limited number on the minibus.

So far the club has been a great success, and has been enjoyed by students from all year groups. Should you be curious to discover what we have been getting up to, check out the Skatepark Academy’s first (of many) video:
